“I hope children will be happy with the books I’ve written and go on to be readers all of their lives.”

My Creative Process

Here’s how my process goes…

  • First, I make some sketches that I don’t like at all; out of these comes a sketch that I like (a little bit)

  • Then, I spend some time getting to know the animal in that sketch & little by little, it starts to come to life. Maybe I’ll get the ears right—then the nose. Most important of all— are the eyes! (All the personality is in the eyes!)

  • After lots & lots of sketches, I’ll finally land on one I like & then comes the best part…

  • Paint! Because color really brings my animal friends to life!

And voila!

Persistence & trust in my own creativity as well as in the artistic process pays off…

whether I end up with a piece I love or a piece that just gave me the chance to freely create for the sake of creating.

Tips for creating something you like…

  • Surround yourself with things that inspire you

  • Be willing to first create something ugly

  • Enjoy the process without worrying about the end result

  • Listen to music that helps you get into a creative flow

  • And let yourself be surprised by the result!
